Résumé
This thesis explores the challenges of scaling sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) supply in Québec. It outlines SAF certification requirements, reviews literature on costs and barriers, and highlights the need for location-specific techno-economic analyses (TEAs). A research gap is identified between TEAs and systemic technological change in aviation, prompting the integration of innovation research concepts. Using TEA and socio-technical change analysis, the study evaluates feedstocks, technologies, and infrastructure for SAF production, presenting cost and quantity estimates for five technology-feedstock combinations. Findings suggest flexible pathways like Fischer-Tropsch hold high potential. Recommendations include enhancing knowledge sharing among stakeholders and fostering market creation through policy measures.
